Students from the Yale School of Architecture and Yale School of Environment share their interactive, New Haven-based research projects with a public at 68 Howe Street, the Miya’s Sushi Building. Visitors received a “Participation Punch Card” which they filled out with stickers and stamps as they engaged with students and discussed their projects.

3rd Floor Gallery installation at the Yale School of Architecture of the New Haven Industrial Heritage Trails, a collaboration with the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. Fourteen students in Arch 4233, Ghsot Town: Abandonment, Preservation, and the Postindustrial Landscape, created critical heritage proposals for fourteen postindustrial sites in New Haven. Yale School of Architecture students in Arch 4219, Urban Research & Representation, create 9 research-based and participatory exhibits for a public in the Community Room of the Ives Main Branch of the New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm Street; plus a shared exhibit, the Collective Memory Map. Participants get a stamp at each station and fill out the Passport.

Created in 2014 by students in “Infrastructure: Politics and Design,” an undergarduate seminar at Yale University listed in Architecture and Political Science and taught by Elihu Rubin.
In the Fall of 2020, with Yale teaching conducted remotely via Zoom and as part of the initiation of a new class, URBN 160 “Introduction to Urban Studies,” a team at CCAM (see below) built a Mobile Zoom Room used to broadcast classes to students Zooming-in, as well as in-person attendance at outdoor locations across the City and Campus.

Interactive Crown Street is a research and pedagogical project that aims to produce an interactive, multimedia, web-based armature for telling stories related to the making and meaning of urban spaces, using Crown Street as a demonstration. Combining public scholarship (bringing university-based research to a broader audience) and digital humanities, Interactive Crown Street seeks to amplify Yale’s educational mission and to enrich faculty and student engagement with New Haven.
A participatory exhibit about the past, present, and future of the New Haven Armory on Goffe Street. Excavating the Armory launched at City-Wide Open Studios Armory Weekend, October 14 & 15, 2017, and continues as an online forum and citizen organization with the goal of conserving the Armory as a shared civic resource. We join those who care about the future of the Armory and invite your participation.
