For their final project in Field Methods in Architectural and Urban Research, Taesha Aurora and Garrett Wiese created a historical excavation of 337 Crown Street, a modest, wood-framed house that has occuped that site for about 175 years and will soon be demolished by its current owner, Yale, to make way for the Dramatic Arts Center.
Elihu’s essay about the Temple Street Garage in New Haven is called “Plasticity” and included in the edited collection The Social Properties of Concrete, published on May 11, 2025. The entire book is available open-source from Punctum Press; the PDF of “Plasticity” is below.
Calder Birdsey’s (M.Arch 2025) exploration and meditation of the architecture, geography, and atmosheres of a typical New Haven housing type from the 1920s: the low-rise Garden Apartment, frequently organized around a courtyard. This project was shared in the public realm at the Field Methods on Howe event on May 7, 2025.
Students from the Yale School of Architecture and Yale School of Environment share their interactive, New Haven-based research projects with a public at 68 Howe Street, the Miya’s Sushi Building. Visitors received a “Participation Punch Card” which they filled out with stickers and stamps as they engaged with students and discussed their projects.
